A Belmont Shore Valentine’s Staple Returns
This February, Belmont Shore invites locals and visitors alike to indulge in one of its most beloved traditions: the Chocolate and Wine Festival, also known this year as the Sweets and Sips Festival. On Sunday, February 15, from 1 to 4 PM, 2nd Street will transform into a pedestrian playground of flavor, fun, and family-friendly festivities.
From artisan chocolate tastings to samples of regional wines and seasonal cocktails, this event captures the spirit of Valentine’s weekend without the pressure of prix fixe menus. Whether you're bringing a date, the family, or just your sweet tooth, there's something for everyone.
A Tasting Tour Through Belmont Shore
Dozens of local shops and bakeries participate in this self-guided tasting adventure. From truffle samples to wine pairings and espresso cocktails, each stop along 2nd Street serves up something special. Tasting tickets and wristbands are available onsite, so you can curate your own flavor journey without commitment fatigue.
One of the festival's highlights is the community dessert contest. Local bakers, hobbyists, and culinary students compete for sweet bragging rights. Attendees can vote for their favorites, making the crowd part of the judging panel.
Scavenger Hunts and Street Sounds
Beyond food and drink, the festival features a themed scavenger hunt for families and kids, making it more than just a tasting event. Live music performances from local bands and acoustic sets create a festive atmosphere along the entire corridor.
Past years have brought surprise pop-up performances, dancing stilt walkers, and even spontaneous flash mobs. It's Valentine’s weekend without the cliché — a vibrant outdoor celebration wrapped in sweet nostalgia.
Local Flavor, National Trends
As chocolate trends skew toward small-batch, bean-to-bar craftsmanship and wine culture becomes more experiential, the Sweets and Sips Festival hits the sweet spot between tradition and taste exploration. It’s a reminder that Long Beach doesn’t just follow national food trends — it sets them at the street level.
So while Valentine's Day often feels like a commercial checkbox, Belmont Shore offers a refreshingly local alternative: community, creativity, and chocolate — all free to attend.
